Santiago League Round 3: CDP hand first defeat to Sameji- March 31, 2021
There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in Santiago League. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
CDP - Sameji 85-82 Sameji (0-1) recorded a loss against CDP on Tuesday night. CDP were edged by CDP (1-0) 85-82. CDP outrebounded Sameji 43-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when CDP made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American Paris Bass (203-95, college: Detroit) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Center Eloy Vargas (211-88, college: Kentucky, agency: Duran International) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Brahian Mendez who recorded 26 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and Filiberto Rodriguez added 14 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. CDP's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena GUG. Cupes (3-0) smashed CPN (1-2) 117-93. Cupes players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists. It was a good game for center Luis Santos (203-94, college: St.Louis) who led his team to a victory with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Point guard Jaison Valdez (188-95, agency: BMS Sport Agency) contributed with 22 points, 8 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Victor Liz (193-86, agency: BMS Sport Agency) answered with 31 points and 6 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and Ronald Tineo added 19 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for CPN. Five Cupes and four CPN players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
